There are over 100 gorges and waterfalls within 10 miles of downtown Ithaca. We saw quite a few today and would love to see many more if the weather would cooperate. Right now we are parked at a mall waiting for some of the strongest winds we’ve ever been in die down. Tulip is rocking just sitting here and it’s cold and is even supposed to snow tonight.
Here are some pictures from today:
These are the falls at Buttermilk State Park which is actually right in town. We walked 1/2 way up in order to view the upper falls that can’t be seen from the bottom. One entrance fee of $7 allows you to go into all the state parks for the day.
Waterfalls at Robert H. Treman State Park.
Ithaca sits at the south end of 40 miles long Cayuga Lake.
The waterfalls on the left are at the entrance of Taughannock State Park. The falls on the right are about a one mile walk up into the gorge and are named Taughannock Falls. There was a lot of spray at this waterfall but it was the most spectacular.
