After leaving the aquarium Saturday we parked along the waterfront in the city. Even though downtown Corpus has a big city look, every time we’ve driven down here it’s been easy with little traffic. And there are usually parking spots along the bay front.
Month: January 2011
Texas State Aquarium
is conveniently located on the shore just 1/2 mile from downtown Corpus Christi. It’s about a 30 mile drive from Port Aransas but we are starting to go stir crazy in this long month of staying put. There’s more to see in CC, such as the Lexington aircraft carrier, several museums and a botanical garden.
The aquarium admission was a bit steep at $16 each but well worth it. However, we should have visited on a weekday because it was crowded today.
The entrance/exit has a waterfall above the doors and also the water is enclosed within the doorways where it swirls all through the arches.
I.B.Magee Beach Park
The beach is at the end of our street in Port Aransas. There is a large RV park behind the building on the left and primitive beach camping is also allowed with a permit from the county.
The pier is 1200 feet long and all sorts of fish can be caught from the end. It normally costs $1.25 admission to go on the pier but today it was free.
We took the red trolley bus back to the RV park after riding the complete circuit so that we could see more of Port Aransas. The red trolleys are only 25 cents and the friendly bus driver will tell you anything you need to know about the area. Our driver said he believes the cold and wet weather is behind us now and that it can get into the 80’s in February.
