I have a knot in my stomach most of the time as I’m sure many people do. What is going to happen next? I spend so much time on Tik Tok every day looking for good news. The news media sites we have always used in the past don’t report everything but Tik Tok seems to know it all. Some of it is fear mongering but it’s hard to know the absolute truth. Today I read a post that said people in Europe are saying we have between 2-6 months before the borders will be closed. How do they know?
My daughter finally has a very good paying job but her company will be heavily impacted by tariffs. I almost wish she would get laid off and come down here. But I’m sure if she did, I would have over reacted and everything will be fine.
On top of that, we still have the cartel wars and they have impacted Mazatlan. We can see from our windows that hardly a soul walks along the lagoon in the back and we don’t take our dog back there anymore. The ocean malecon’s foot traffic is also considerable less. We definitely don’t want to drive the highways out of Mazatlan so we are pretty much house bound other than shopping and eating out with friends once a week.
Steve and I need to fly to the US to visit our mothers. Both our mothers are 96. But flying doesn’t seem very safe and going through immigration is a 2-3 hours ordeal. My passport shows I was born in Austria but I never formally obtained US citizenship other than by osmosis through my American father. No proof though. I was questioned extensively one time about this entering Canada some years back and who knows how the US will now react.
I see so many posts on Tik Tok from people who have left the US, have plans to leave, or want to leave and can’t. If I was in the US and was a brown person, I would be gone yesterday. They have to be absolutely terrified. Between Gaza, Ukraine, and the US it’s just too much. Rancid said the problem with the western world is too much empathy. How did we elect so many sociopaths? I thought they were a rarity in the human population but I guess not.
The last time I posted I mentioned problems with our dog and the HOA committee. That all came to a big head and all is well. First of all, the person who complained about our dog also complained about at least 5 other dogs. Long story short, our annual HOA meeting was total chaos with everyone shouting, no order, and almost everyone leaving before the voting began including me. The entire HOA committee resigned, they were replaced with 5 Mexicans (good!) and one American. The administrator was voted out and the office secretary (love her) was voted as the new administrator. Stress on the part of employees who were unfairly treated and most of the homeowners has been relieved.
