Stephenville Again

We’re with new Canadian friends we made in Corner Brook who followed us here to the old air force base runways where we stayed a month ago.  A couple from Arkansas pulled in yesterday and we all visited together last night.  We bought fresh halibut  that Steve grilled to go along with our potluck meal.  The other day we found a great family restaurant in downtown Stephenville where we had the best fish so far.  There’s also a good bakery downtown that has a large variety of breads and pastries.  Other than much higher humidity than the rest of Newfoundland this is a good place to hang out for a while.  There’s a free dump and water nearby.  Tomorrow we are going to tour the Rose Blanche Lighthouse Scenic Drive and then Sunday night we’ll get in line for the return ferry leaving at 3am.
Last month when we were here we attempted to drive the Port au Port peninsula but the weather was so foggy that we only saw the Alpacas and the historic church.  We had fairly nice weather two days ago and this time made it around the peninsula. There are many dramatic cliffs that jut out into the sea and once again we had scenery that was unique. The villages are French and this was the first area we had been in where the majority of the people had nice lawns and flowers and also did more in general to make their houses look nice.  Some went way over the top.
