is near the very nice town of Canandaigua. The Sonnenberg Mansion was built in 1886 in the Queen Anne style and has 40 rooms. There was a temporary display of beautiful period gowns inside the mansion when we visited.
There are nine formal gardens with the rose garden having 2500 bushes. However, it was too early in the season to see much in the gardens. And there is a lot of renovation in progress where patios, entrances, and some gardens were blocked off. Major maintenance and renovations are definitely needed to the outside of the mansion and to the garden structures. If you want to see what the gardens look like later in the summer go to the mansions’ website at: www.sonnenberg.org
And there are greenhouses to tour that included orchid, cactus, and tropical.
